Composting at BVSD Green Star Schools
We are thrilled to announce that students will be able to compost their food scraps in Green Star School cafeterias this year!
Benefits of Compost:
- Reduces food waste at the landfill
- Returns nutrients to the soil
- Natural climate solution, it helps our Earth!
How you can support your student to be Wise with Waste:
Reduce Food Waste!
- Compost food scraps only! Keep contaminants out of compost when available at school,
- home, or elsewhere. View Eco-Cycle's Compost Guidelines for more information.
- Eat your food and save uneaten food for later when possible.
Remind students to Recycle Right! Choose recyclable drink containers such as cans, cartons,
and bottles. Better yet, have your student bring a reusable water bottle!
To learn more about what is recyclable at BVSD schools, visit Eco-Cycle’s Recycling Guidelines.
Choose to Reuse!
- School lunch is a great way to reduce waste! Remind your student to return all reusable
- utensils, cups, dishes, and trays to the kitchen.
- When packing snacks and lunch, reusable water bottles, food storage containers, and
- utensils are the best way to reduce waste!
